Chiropractic: Helping you to ‘adjust’ to a healthier lifestyle

Chiropractic care is the art, science and philosophy of realigning vertebrae to restore function in the nervous system.

Every function in the human body is controlled by a complex system of nerves. The nervous system is connected to every organ, tissue and cell in your entire body. When you feel hot or cold, feel a feather running across your arm or feel someone kissing your cheek, it is the nervous system that’s working.

Misalignment and malfunction

A ‘subluxation’ is a vertebra in the spine that is out of alignment. Caused by emotional, physical or chemical stress, vertebral subluxations make the body more susceptible to aches, pains and disease. You can’t always feel if you have a subluxation because only 10% of our nervous system can actually perceive pain. This means that up to 90% can be highly stressed without any symptoms or warning signs.

Chiropractic is the only profession that utilizes gentle spinal adjustments to remove nerve interference so that the body can heal itself. Chiropractors focus on the spine and the nervous system to correct problems throughout the entire body.

Treating the cause, not the symptoms
Chiropractic does not focus on the symptoms of the problem, it works to remove the cause of the problem, which in turn will reduce or eliminate the associated symptoms.

At the heart of chiropractic care is the art of adjustment. The doctor applies a gentle force to the spine that unlocks the vertebrae that is out of alignment. Once the vertebrae are in alignment, the body can restore its normal nerve function.

Peace, relaxation and energy
After an adjustment you may experience a feeling of deepening peace and relaxation, or you may experience a soothing, warm feeling flowing to various parts of your body. Some people feel very energetic after an adjustment and go about their day with a light, happy feeling!

Some patients find that their symptoms begin to disappear after their first visit. There are some people who feel no difference after an adjustment, but that does not mean that they are not benefiting – it just means that they’re not experiencing any external reaction.

By removing a nervous system blockage, not only does pain usually subside, but many people also notice a change in the way their organs are functioning. Reports of improved immune function, decreased headaches, decreased menstrual cramps, the elimination of stomach pain or irritable bowel syndrome, decreased allergies or sinus headaches, and the elimination of asthma-symptoms are all common observations by chiropractic patients.

As you continue with your chiropractic care, and your spine and nervous system continue to release deeply rooted stress, you may begin to notice better balance, smoother movement and more energy.
